Norwegian Elkhounds are a fairly healthy breed and most breeders, including ourselves, do their utmost to ensure that the puppies they breed are as free from hereditary defects and diseases as it is humanly possible to do so. We aim to breed puppies that are of a good type that fit to the standard for the breed, for excellent temperament and soundness thereby ensuring that they are fit for function.
Al our breeding stock is health tested before being bred from for the following:
X-rayed and scored under the Hip Dysplasia Scheme
Eye Tested for signs of any abnormalities and inherited diseases where they can be identified
Blood Tested for prcd/PRA
From 1st June 2014 a DNA Test will be carried out in accordance with the Raad van Beheer
We breed in accordance with the Rules of the Raad van Beheer and Scandia and with the Norwegian Elkhound Club of Great Britain’s Code of Ethics
